Meet Ava

I was born with a congenital heart defect that required open-heart surgery soon after my birth. In my 3 years of life I have spent over 300 days in the hospital and had over 27 surgeries for various things. To this day I am still dependent on extra oxygen and my feeding tube. Though my parents knew that my surgery was needed ahead of time, it still never prepared them for the obstacles that I’ve had. My family is built on strength and faith. They know that today may not be what they had expected, or hoped it to be, but they can not live for tomorrow when they are only guaranteed today. I have inspired my family to start Avastrong Charity to better help other families in need of guidance, support and awareness of CHD. They not only fight for me, they fight for every child born with CHD.
